Dope’s Kiersey Clemons will star in and produce a film about 23-year-old Lauren Simmons, the youngest female trader to work on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange. As reported by Deadline, Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios acquired the life rights to Simmons’ story.
Currently, Simmons is the youngest as well as the only female and African-American woman employed full-time as a stockbroker on the floor of the NYSE. In 2016, Simmons graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor’s degree in genetics, but the Georgia native later realized that dealing with numbers is where her true passion lies. “I fell in love with the numbers and the fast movement, and the men in trading jackets. Everything was moving so fast, and I’m loving it,” Simmons told BBC’s Joe Miller.
Clemons will produce alongsider her managers Eddie Galan and Starr Andreeff, AGC’s Ford, Greg Shapiro, and Glendon Palmer. The project will become the first film of Clemons’ new production company, Girl on Mercury.
No further details of the project are available at this time, but be sure to catch Clemons in her other upcoming projects, including Fox’s live musical Rent, the Disney remake of Lady and the Tramp, and the DC Comics film Flashpoint.
