The treasured early-2000s animated series The Proud Family is back and apparently, louder and prouder. The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder will be offered as part of Disney+, and is set to launch on the platform in February 2022.
It’s been 14 years since we’ve watched the hilarious adventures of the Proud family, consisting of Penny, Trudy, Oscar, Suga Mama, and twins BeBe and CeCe. The revival will continue to follow Penny Proud and include the original Proud family along with Penny’s crew Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez, and Zoey Howzer.
The trailer reveals that the creators and voice actors have stayed true to the original series’ art style (with a bit of an upgrade), charm, and sense of humor. There’s certainly a strong wave of nostalgia running through fans of the cherished show. “Am I the only one with a few tears and a smile on my face when they watched this?” writes one user on YouTube. Penny appears to be transitioning into adulthood, and fans are excited to watch their childhood favorite navigate life as an adult while dealing with her overprotective but well-meaning father Oscar.
The returning cast includes Kyla Pratt, Tommy Davidson, Paula Jai Parker, JoMarie Payton, Cedric the Entertainer, Carlos Mencia, Maria Canals-Barrera, Alvaro Gutierrez, Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye, and Alisa Reyes. The series will also feature a wide range of guest stars, including Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Gabrielle Union, Gabby Douglas, Tiffany Haddish, Anthony Anderson, Brenda Song, and more.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is executive-produced by Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, who both led the original series. Eastwood Wong is the art director.
