Black Artists And Culture

Black Authors Hero

At Jaro, we celebrate Black artists from every corner of the globe. Our creators span areas from the Caribbean to Asia and continental Africa. Our platform champions Black art and Black culture and seeks to share it with everyone from the comfort of their home. Jaro is a Black-owned and curated multimedia platform that is revolutionizing the way people engage with Black media.

Our platform features all types of Black art, from films to fine art. We curate each piece of media with care and work with Black artists to increase their viewership and representation in the wider media world. Here are just a few of the ways Jaro highlights Black Artists and Black culture.

Black Films

In the early days of cinema, Black actors and filmmakers were largely excluded from the industry, and when they did appear on screen, they were often typecast in stereotypical and demeaning roles. Today Black filmmakers are taking the lead in creating films that reflect the nuances of modern Black life.
At Jaro, we host films created by Black artists going back decades and are always putting out new content for our subscribers. We have everything from short films to documentaries. We showcase Black culture in groundbreaking documentaries like “The American South As We Know It” and “Glen’s Village.”

Black Artists

Black fine art has a long and multifaceted history, dating back to ancient Africa, where many cultures created powerful and sophisticated visual art. However, the history of Black fine art in the Western world is more recent and has been shaped by the experiences of slavery, segregation, and discrimination.

The Black artists featured by us include some of the most up-and-coming names in fine art. Scroll through the featured artwork of Cecil Freed and Gilbert Young and transport yourself to a tapestry of colors with modern Black art.

Black Authors

Black literature has a rich and complex history that spans several centuries. One of the earliest examples of Black literature is the oral tradition of storytelling that was passed down by enslaved Africans in the Americas. These stories, which were often used to preserve cultural traditions and history, were an important form of expression for Black people during a time when they were denied the ability to read or write.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Arts Movement produced a new generation of Black writers who sought to assert a distinct Black aesthetic and address issues of race and social justice in their work. Examples include Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, and James Baldwin.

The books curated by Jaro are all written by Black authors and highlight new voices from a modern background. We feature all genres of stories from Black voices, including mystery, drama, history, and fiction. Check out our most beloved Black stories!

The Jaro Collective

The Jaro Collective is an online marketplace for Black content creators that boosts brand awareness by sharing content with a like-minded audience. It is a platform for indie creators to be featured, gain momentum in their respective fields, and get recognition as Black creators, cultural leaders, and artists.

The history of Black art and culture is long and beautiful — and often full of pain and triumph. At Jaro, we hope to propel Black artists, filmmakers, authors, and creators into the spotlight by allowing their works to be featured to an audience that understands their message.
