This Valentine’s Day, a charming and intimate portrayal of Black love is on the way. In what appears to be the dreamiest pairing, Lakeith Stanfield and Issa Rae have joined forces for Universal’s upcoming film The Photograph.

Written and directed by Stella Meghie (The Weekend), her latest project centers on a young woman, Mae (Rae), who unravels the complex past of her estranged and recently deceased mother after finding a box filled with her cherished belongings – including a vintage photograph of her mother with a former lover. This curious photo leads Mae on a journey delving into her mother’s early life, and finds romance with a rising journalist, Michael (Stanfield), along the way.

In the first trailer, there’s wine sipping, sensuality, smooth talking, and a genuine connection. We also become briefly acquainted with Mae’s mother’s love story, which is apparently mirrored in her relationship with Michael. As a side note, Issa Rae looks absolutely phenomenal in yellow, which contributes to the warm tone of the trailer. And, as expected, Lakeith Stanfield continues to be his effortlessly alluring self.

Produced by Will Packer and James Lopez, The Photograph also stars Chanté Adams, Y’lan Noel, Chelsea Peretti, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jasmine Cephas Jones, Lil Rel Howery, Teyonah Parris, Rob Morgan, Courtney B. Vance and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
