Meshell Ndegeocello has announced her second album for Blue Note Records, No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin. This tribute to James Baldwin will be released on August 2nd, marking the 100th anniversary of the renowned author’s birth. Following her 2023 Blue Note debut, The Omnichord Real Book, which won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album, Ndegeocello’s new album is eagerly anticipated.
Ndegeocello co-produced No More Water with guitarist Chris Bruce, and recorded it with Bruce, vocalist Justin Hicks, saxophonist Josh Johnson, keyboardist Jebin Bruni, and drummer Abe Rounds. The album also features guest appearances by poet Staceyann Chin, author and critic Hilton Als, vocalist Kenita R. Miller-Hicks, keyboardists Jake Sherman and Julius Rodriguez, and trumpeter Paul Thompson.
