‘Atlanta’: Donald Glover Drops Obscure Surprise Teaser For Long-Awaited Third Season

On Halloween, Donald Glover took to Twitter to surprise fans with the first teaser for season three of Atlanta, which is set to premiere in 2022.

The 40 second teaser itself is cryptic and slightly ominous, with various B-roll from European countries and a soundtrack of Sun Ra’s “It’s After The End of the World.” Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) makes an appearance at the end of the teaser, sitting at a table where two workers stand behind him facing the wall. Aside from the apparent dark tone of the trailer (“Is this Atlanta or American Horror Story?” a fan writes), there’s absolutely no telling regarding what is to come––but the intrigue is palpable.

Season three was primarily filmed in Europe. As a refresher, the 2018 second season ended with Earn, Paper Boi, and Darius boarding a flight for an International tour. The show’s delay was initially due to the cast’s busy schedules, and the setback was extended due to the pandemic. However, this pause allowed for prime and efficient writing time.

“One of the things that’s been kind of an unexpected boon from COVID-19 was that writers have had a lot of time to write,” said FX president John Landgraf last year. “Donald Glover and his intrepid team of partners have written everything for Season 3 and 4, with the intent to shoot them all at one time, essentially back to back.”Atlanta was created by Donald Glover and produced by FX Productions.
