First Comes Love Challenges #CoupleGoals at PVIFF 2026

First Comes Love Challenges #CoupleGoals at PVIFF 2026

A picture-perfect relationship can tell a convincing story. But what happens when the image becomes more important than the love behind it?

That tension drives First Comes Love, an 18-minute, 15-second short film directed by Tanya Martineau and produced by Van Dinh that has been named an official finalist for the 2026 Peachtree Village International Film Festival (PVIFF).

Starring Raisa D’Oyley and Malik Jones, the film follows Taylor, an ambitious and caring woman in her early 30s whose longtime relationship with her boyfriend, Khalil, appears to embody everything she has dreamed of since childhood.

To their social media followers, they are the definition of #CoupleGoals. Stylish, affectionate and seemingly inseparable, the couple has cultivated an image of romantic perfection.

Behind the carefully selected photographs and admiring captions, however, lies a relationship shaped by performance, insecurity and the need for validation.

The film joins this year’s PVIFF finalist lineup ahead of the festival’s Nov. 5-8 gathering in Atlanta.

When the Fairytale Becomes a Performance

At the center of First Comes Love is Taylor, a woman who has spent much of her life envisioning the fairytale romance she believes will lead to marriage.

For years, she has imagined finding her prince charming, building a lasting relationship and creating the future she has always wanted.

Khalil appears to fulfill that dream.

Their relationship has become part of Taylor’s identity, reinforcing the belief that she has found the man she is meant to marry.

Yet beneath the carefully maintained exterior is a more complicated emotional reality.

Despite her ambition and caring nature, Taylor struggles with insecurities that shape how she perceives herself and the relationship she has invested years in building.

The film’s premise introduces a central conflict between romantic expectations and emotional authenticity, examining the pressure to preserve a relationship that appears ideal to everyone watching.

For Taylor, the question is not simply whether she has found the right partner. It is whether the life she has created reflects genuine happiness or an image she feels compelled to maintain.

Love, Validation and the Social Media Lens

One of the central themes of First Comes Love is the influence of social media on modern relationships.

In an environment where romantic milestones, affectionate gestures and public declarations often become content for online audiences, the distinction between personal fulfillment and public approval can become increasingly difficult to navigate.

Taylor and Khalil’s relationship exists within that tension.

Their carefully presented image creates the appearance of lasting happiness, but the film’s underlying premise suggests that external validation may be masking unresolved emotional needs.

The story raises questions about the expectations people place on romantic partnerships and the ways those expectations can influence decisions about commitment, identity and self-worth.

It also considers the emotional consequences of measuring personal relationships against idealized versions of love.

Through Taylor’s circumstances, First Comes Love explores a recognizable modern dilemma: the desire to have a relationship that looks successful and the more complicated challenge of building one that feels fulfilling.

PVIFF Finalists Compete Through Judging and Audience Engagement

The 2026 Peachtree Village International Film Festival is incorporating professional judging and audience participation into its finalist evaluation process.

Under the festival’s announced scoring structure, 70% of each finalist’s overall competition score will come from evaluations by judges representing PVIFF and JaroGO. The remaining 30% will be determined by audience engagement through the JaroGO streaming platform.

Participating finalist films are scheduled to be available on JaroGO during a limited competition viewing period, allowing audiences to watch, rate and comment on the selected productions.

The initiative is designed to provide independent filmmakers with additional visibility while extending the festival experience beyond traditional theatrical screenings.
