Critical Content, best known for Catfish and Startup, will develop a scripted drama series based on Manning Marable’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention.

David Matthews will pen the script and executive produce, along with Tom Forman, Andrew Marcus, and Ray Ricord, all from Critical Content. A potential network has not yet been attached to the project as producers are still searching for filmmakers to join, as stated by The Hollywood Reporter.

The series will be informed by Marable’s biography, which revealed previously unknown details about the evolution of Malcolm X into a human rights activist.

This would become the latest of several portrayals of Malcolm X in film and television, with the most recent being Nigel Thatch’s role as the activist in Selma.

Aside from the series, Critical Content also plans on producing a subsequent documentary regarding Malcolm X’s legacy.
