‘Maynard’ Will Document The Story Of Atlanta’s First Black Mayor

The biopic is set to premiere in 2018.

A documentary about Maynard Jackson, the first African-American mayor of a major Southern city, is currently in post-production and scheduled to be released in 2018.

‘Maynard’ will provide an intimate view of Jackson through video archival footage, interviews from his closest companions, and rare photographs. Furthermore, the film will account for the entire story of Maynard Jackson as a three-term serving mayor, a compassionate leader, and a revolutionary.

The documentary will be directed by Peabody award winner Sam Pollard and produced by Wendy Eley Jackson, Dolly Turner, and Winsome Sinclair under the Atlanta-based production company Auburn Avenue Films. It will feature key interviews from Bill Clinton, Rev. Al Sharpton, Andrew Young, Vernon Jordan, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and more.
