‘The Uptown Chronicles’ multi-media franchise is expanding into the evolving micro-drama space with the announcement from SDG Quantum Productions that its flagship title will launch an animated vertical series across its TikTok and Instagram handles on May 21st.
The vertical series will serve as a bite-sized initiation into the world and lore of ‘The Uptown Chronicles’, with episodes ranging from 60 to 90 seconds in length. ‘The Uptown Chronicles’ was first introduced with a conceptual trailer in 2023, a podcast in 2024, and a comic series in 2025. A full-length animated television series starring Tony Award-winning Anika Noni-Rose is currently in pre-production.
‘The Uptown Chronicles’ vertical series is produced by creator Steven Goard, with Alonge Hawes serving as writer. Both Goard and Hawes co-direct and executive produce through SDG Quantum Productions and A Million Stories One Pen Productions, respectively. Art direction is handled by Patrick King, who also serves as the art designer for the comic series.
The first episode of the vertical series, titled “For Whom the Key Calls”, will establish the futuristic mythos of Chicago in the year 2100; a world where flying vehicles and diligent cyborgs are the norm, and nanobots and artificial intelligence are everyday tools utilized by adults & children alike. The series centers around the Hamilton family, a gifted brood of which the uncovering of their magical legacy will lead to a revelation that intermixes science-fiction and Afrofuturism into an adventure centuries in the making. The vertical series promises action, excitement, and thrills for audiences of all ages.
Goard and Hawes will be on-hand at this year’s Momocon Convention to discuss The Uptown Chronicles’ present & future as well as present a sneak peek at the micro-drama’s second episode. Momocon is scheduled to take place May 22nd-24th at the Georgia World Congress Center.
