The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards aired Monday, September 17th on NBC. Hosted by Saturday Night Live co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost, this year’s ceremony contained a variety of memorable moments. For the first time in nearly two decades, HBO didn’t dominate the evening, as Netflix became a fitting competitor due to hit series such as Black Mirror and Stranger Things.

Black talent was honored when Regina King, in disbelief, won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her role on the Netflix series Seven Seconds. Thandie Newton also took home an Emmy, winning for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, based on her role as Maeve on HBO’s Sci-Fi Western series Westworld. “I don’t even believe in God, but I’m going to thank her tonight,” said a humbled Newton during her viral acceptance speech. Diversity filled the list of Emmy nominations, as you’ll see below. Lastly, Atlanta’s Teddy Perkins (played by Donald Glover) made an appearance in the crowd, although it remains a mystery who was behind the disguise, since Donald Glover and the rest of the Atlanta crew were also at the ceremony.  Any guesses?
