The ‘Michelle Obama Podcast’ On Spotify Will Create Space For Candid And Meaningful Conversations

As part of a 2019 deal with Spotify and the Obama’s production company Higher Ground, the former First Lady and President will be producing podcasts exclusive to the music platform. The first title within this partnership, The Michelle Obama Podcast, will debut to Spotify’s nearly 300 million Free and Premium users beginning July 29th.
Founded in 2018, Higher Ground Productions was created by the Obamas with the motive for the company to be an uplifting platform for new and diverse voices within the realm of the entertainment industry, producing powerful stories that will “entertain, inform, and inspire.”
“In this first season, I’m going to be talking with some of the people I’m closest with,” Michelle Obama said. “In each episode, we’ll be discussing the relationships that make us who we are. We’ll be talking about the challenges and joys of being a parent or a spouse, the friendships that help us through the toughest times, or the growth we experience when we lean on the colleagues and mentors around us.”
“My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives,” she continued. “Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations—and hard conversations—with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”
Special guests will join Obama in forming these substantial conversations, including Dr. Sharon Malone MD, Obama’s brother Craig Robinson, Valerie Jarett, Conan O’Brien, and Michele Norris.
Spotify’s Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer Dawn Ostroff released a statement as well, saying: “At Spotify, we seek to connect listeners with the world’s most authentic and compelling voices. We believe that audiences across the globe will be inspired by these most candid, most human, and most personal conversations between First Lady Michelle Obama and her guests.”
