ABC has given the green light to a new drama written by Rosewood’s Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Deadline reports. The currently untitled drama will highlight a North Carolina town whose criminal justice system is run exclusively by women of color.

Chelsea Barnum, the show’s protagonist, is seeking a fresh start after a failed marriage and recently becoming unemployed. When she accepts her new job as a police chief in Sutter, North Carolina, she discovers that women of color run the town’s judicial system. “What started out as a second chance at a career ends up becoming a second chance at life, as together these women revolutionize crime and punishment while restoring hope, community and humanity to a town that desperately needs it,” wrote Deadline.

The series is quite timely, as our nation is currently experiencing a record number of women of color in high positions of government, such as in Jefferson County, Alabama, where nine extremely qualified black female judges were elected.

Carroll will executive produce the show with Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions, along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions.
