WATCH: Viola Davis Is Ready For Battle In Warrior Film Trailer ‘The Woman King’

The Woman King has received its first trailer from Sony Pictures. Based on true events, the film tells the story of the Agojie, a unit that consisted of all-female warriors who fiercely safeguarded the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s. 

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, Beyond the Lights), The Woman King follows the spirited and epic journey of General Nanisca (Viola Davis) as she equips the next generation of recruits for battle against the enemy.

The upcoming film, which hits theaters on September 16th, also stars John Boyega, Sheila Atim, Lashana Lynch, and Thuso Mbedu.
