In the latest episode of JARO’s podcast, Tomeka M. Winborne and PVIFF’s co-founder Len Gibson have a brief conversation with the executive producers and cast of EPIX’ new series, Godfather of Harlem. Featuring the series’ producers James Acheson and Markuann Smith, along with cast members Antoinette Crowe-Legacy and Nigel Thatch, the group shares their journey in developing the show.

Inspired by true events, the series’ synopsis reads as follows:

Godfather of Harlem reimagines the story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from a decade in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in smables. The series brings to life the story of one of America’s most notorious African-American mobsters as he fights to reclaim his neighborhood.”

Aside from detailing the journey and the characters they portray, the cast shares their future plans, including hopeful preparation for a second season.

Godfather of Harlem’s producer Markuann Smith will attend Atlanta’s Peachtree Village International Film Festival (PVIFF), which is set for October 24th to 27th.
